Laurie thanks for that second update

I would just like to also second what Laurie said about the actions of other fans etc affecting how some of you may be feeling about Darren atm. I am sure this is the root cause of a lot of disillusionment right now. I think this ultimately says more about them than about you and when this happens I try to focus on the happier times I've enjoyed on these boards and the occasions I've met people and enjoyed their company immensely Try not to let the actions and words of a few people from letting you enjoy what was once such a pleasure.

If in the end, you find that you don't enjoy the music anymore than that's OK too because there is no law that says you have to like Darren whatever type of music he produces. All I would ask of someone is to make sure that it is YOUR decision and not prompted by the negative feelings of others.

Terry dont feel bad.. I been like that for the last two years.

I get mildy hopeful at times and then really most of the time I dont have much excitement for him. I wrote in a " I miss SG post" that I miss the fact I dont care so much about him" and I do.. I miss that journal entries arent something I go running to desperate to read his every word ..

Though I had hope about the album musically as a good friend said to me today when he read it.. it sounds like hes working with electronica people and it will be spin 2 and we werent that excited. Theres a small chance I may like the album..but I will never really like Darren Hayes the way I did again that makes me sad initself.

Those that are excited should hang on to it and go with it and be soo happy that they can feel it still.

Terry half the time I have NO Idea why I hang around these forums its really just in memory of somethng I was a part of. Theres some cool people that I talk too..but truthfully this forum could be about Placebo or Lifehouse or Bon Jovi or even Blue you know..it just happens to be about DH/SG

There seems to be a mixed bag of feelings over at the f/c board atm. I think the general ones are, excitement - pure excitement as in, INSANE excitement, bopperish lol*... and for some reason, fear... people are worried because the news is really so ominous and secretive, not really giving any true hints as to the direction the album is taking. I get that, but it seems people are just fretting... and there is a subtext that somehow they *have* to like it, because if they don't, then what? I know how that sort of thing feels, but I don't really feel it right now because it seems far too drastic to be thinking like that. I do miss the way I used to feel about Darren, but I don't worry about losing him forever, because I always have what I use to feel about him. And yeah, sometimes I wish I could feel that way again, but if I don't, then the memory of it is still very special.

The general jist is that people feel they *must* like it because it's Darren, and without him they have...well nothing!! This is what a friend told me But if Darren is your only motivation, your only *reason*... well, that's something I can't relate to, which I guess is a good thing.

Of course there are other feelings around, some very sensible, some not so sensible, but those are the ones I've really noticed. Me? After reading last night's new journal entry, I'm still very curious as to what the album will sound like. There's a lot of music I used to listen to that I just don't listen to as much anymore. I've had my ups and downs recently but around my birthday I had somewhat of a revelation!! *collective gasps* And I'm not sure if this is really on topic, but I discovered new parts of myself (that sounds different on the screen than in my head LOL) that I didn't really know were there before. I also learned not to try and fit into the mould that other people *want* me to fit into, or try and force me to fit into. Ah, the wisdom of age LOL. I didn't do a complete overhaul, but things changed a little. And somehow that changed my choices and my perspective on things. I'm nowhere near happy yet or "where I want to be" but I feel like I might have found another piece of the puzzle. Not sure how this fits into the topic at hand, but understanding that mentality that Darren seems to have at the moment makes me a little more interested in his work. The fact that it's supposed to be completely different and something we've never heard before...it's a fact that I regard with equal parts curiosity and the notion of whether I should be scared...LOL!! Because something different than Spin is something I like the sound of, but something different than Savage Garden...well yeah, but *so* different? There is some stuff he's done before that I *do* like So does that automatically mean that I'm going to hate this, because I love SG and he's doing something exciting and new?
I've also noticed that with each new project he seems to take on he also seems to say "this is the real me." It will probably happen with the next album as well. And I'm on board with that!! But it is kinda funny. It seems he sheds his skin with every piece of new music he makes.

Anyway, I think I've reached the world record quota for rambling, so I'll stop before the men in white coats realize I've escaped the cell. I can hear the sirens!! Argh!! Argh!!

Oh and btw, what I meant to say was, I just want to hear the bloody album damnit!!

Sam, I've been reading back over some of last night's comments and I have to say that I pretty much agree with what you say

I think it's personally a dangerous habit to get into to automatically expect to like something only later to find out that it doesn't live up to what you were expecting. I think some of them have invested just too much of their emotional lives in Darren. This is where the inbalance lies and the danger is that you can't see things rationally anymore and trouble can flare up. I think a lot also depends at which point you entered the fandom from. By that I mean, where you are in your life and at what emotional level the whole thing kicked in at. I'll be honest and say that to start with, I found the whole SG thing to be like a drug and became almost addicted to it. That whole thing I'm glad to say has evolved into a more balanced appreciation for the music etc. But I can understand where some of them are coming from because at first I admit that I was as guilty of that way of thinking as they are. You need other interests and pursuits other than simply this whole fan thing.

I think also there comes a point when people are reluctant to let go of the past because of the way they felt about a certain point in their lives. If the memories are very positive and make you feel happy then of course you don't want to let them go.

I am intrigued about the new music and I personally think it sounds as if it may well have a dangerous, risky, edgey sound to it. Let's just say that I am holding myself in readiness for it and until I've actually heard it then I am reserving any type of judgement because at the moment it's impossible to say what it will be like - different is about all that comes to mind It does sound as though it has taken on a life of it's own and the whole process of making this album seems to have possessed Darren. It would seem as if from his own personal point of view he needed to make it for whatever reasons.

Sam I loved your ramble and it makes so much sense!!!

I think there is a new *real* Darren Hayes every time he makes a cd because his life has changed as has ours. I can't tell you how many years I've spent trying to discover who the real me is, it depends on the moment.

Also as I said over there, I think he's having fun teasing the fans and the cynical me puts it all down to clever marketing!

Thanks guys

I get what you mean Janie, I think I used to feel that way too... I was 15 when I discovered Savage Garden and of course that was quite near the end. It seems a world away now. And at that time I was so emotional... when SG split up, I was livid with both Darren and Daniel and I think that shows I was investing far too many of my emotions into it. I would *not* listen to the albums for ages afterwards. I don't know what compelled me to join the Darren board (I was always a lurker in other respects) but I did and I heard Insatiable and I couldn't keep away. I realize that in the past I was gearing towards being a somewhat "obsessive" fan, the type I look down my nose at now. In my defense, maybe I wasn't that bad. But I think there is a point where you get addicted. And there is also a point where you come out of that addiction. There was a time when I felt I was constantly in rehab over Darren!! More powerful than any type of drug. Though I know now that it's dangerous to love something *that* much. It's nice sometimes, when you're in that world. But it cuts you off from life. It sounds drastic and dramatic, but it's true. It is important to have other interests. For me it was never *just* Darren, there were always other things I liked. But he was the chief addiction and that made things hard for me in the long run.
Now I do have other interests that compell me just as, or almost as much as Darren did/does, I do feel that nice balance. I'm glad that I'm not imprisoned in a bubble about Darren. Back when I felt *so* emotionally attached to him, (this was quite a long while ago now) I realized I had to distance myself a bit, because I was literally in too deep. I was thinking about him all the time and I knew that in the future, it was going to make things really difficult. I couldn't live for one man who didn't even know who I was. That's insane!! I had discussions with Mum about the attitude of obsession that I've been noticing quite recently and she thinks that when Darren, or whatever, is the only thing worth anything in your life (which is kinda sad) then it totally consumes you. I think that's true in a way.

I agree with you about the new music. I'm very interested in hearing what he has to share. I'm not all that sure about it...but I guess it just adds to the mystery. But I'm very impatient and I just want to hear it!! So I can decide once and for all.

I listened to Spin the other day (for the first time in ages) and I let it play all the way through. I never usually do that, I didn't even really do that when I played it more often. But I let it all play through, and I listened. At times I got bored. My finger was itching to press the skip button. LOL. But I made myself listen to it. And I smiled a bit, and I sang along, and I think the songs that had the most effect on me were Like It Or Not and Insatiable. It was kind of an experiment to see if I actually wanted to throw the CD out of the window. And I didn't. I didn't hate it, it just wasn't really my thing. But I remembered what I used to feel for it and I smiled about that. On my birthday I listened to SG at my party, and my cousin was saying mean things about Darren, and I was defending him!! So I must still like him somewhere...
^That was a ramble that had nothing to do with the subject really, I just wanted to express that I don't hate his music.

As to the many sides of Darren, I think we're all like that. I lovingly used to refer to him as Jekyll and Hyde. I don't know which side is which. LOL.

Oh and I'm having an interesting time watching people desperately trying to decipher his every single word, for example the "citrus" thing. I mean, they're just words!! He's a good, interesting writer and he likes to put his own original "spin" (pardon the pun) on words. Can't we just leave it at that? Perhaps if we read the message backwards and note down every fourth word it will tell us where the treasure be

I know exactly what Sam is saying about bopperism. The excitement sometimes gets out of hand and I find it very ott. I'm looking forward to the album but then I am still very much a huge fan of Darren. However there are some people I know on the board who listen to no other music than Darren. Sorry but I can't handle that. I have to listen to music by other people whether it be bands such as Evanescence, Good Charlotte, or Dido or if I'm in the mood going back to listen to my old Queen albums. If Darren's new album is not what I'm hoping for I don't think it would stop me being a fan although I would probably be disappointed. Going back to Queen, I remember in the early 80s they produced an album which was so different to anything they'd done before and they got slated for it but then they went on to produce some great stuff after it, so there's hope.
